Learning as an adult
Plenty of adults never learned to swim, or learned just enough to get by. Adult lessons are judgement-free and go at your pace, in your own condo pool rather than a busy public one.
Two kinds of adult students
Most adults come to us for one of two reasons:
- Complete beginners, who start with breathing, floating and feeling comfortable in deep water.
- Swimmers who want better technique, such as a smoother freestyle, an easier breaststroke or more stamina.
How a coach fixes your stroke
Our coaches watch you swim, explain what to change and then drill it with you. For freestyle, for example, a coach might break the stroke into simple cues such as shoulder roll, zip and swing, so the correction sticks.
What you'll work on
Depending on where you start:
- Breathing calmly with your face in the water.
- Floating on your front and back, and getting back to standing.
- Kicking and gliding, then freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.
- Building the stamina to swim continuous laps.
Private or small group
Many adults prefer 1-to-1 lessons for focus and privacy. If you're learning with a partner, friend or neighbour, a small class of two to four is cheaper per person. Adult lessons are 45 minutes, and prices are the same as for kids: from $28 to $70 per lesson depending on class size.
Why learn at your condo
No crowded lanes and no audience at a public pool: just you, your coach and a pool you already know. Lessons usually run once a week at a fixed time, which makes it easier to build the habit.
Getting started
